MÉTODOS:  trata-se de um estudo ecológico transversal, com dados do Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação (Sinan); utilizou-se análise fatorial e autocorrelação Moran global e local bivariável para identificar padrões espaciais associados à distribuição do índice de carência social (ICS) e taxa de detecção da hanseníase (TDH).  RESULTADOS:  em 2013, foram notificados 3.358 casos novos de hanseníase no Pará, com TDH de 41,98 casos/100 mil habitantes; taxas mais elevadas foram observadas nos municípios da região de integração do Araguaia; dos 143 municípios do estado, 17,5% foram considerados hiperendêmicos (TDH&gt;40,00) e 30,8% apresentaram ICS ruim; revelou-se autocorrelação espacial entre TDH e ICS (p&lt;0,05).  CONCLUSÃO:  verificou-se associação espacial entre ICS e TDH, com maior detecção da hanseníase nos municípios com maior carência social.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen  OBJETIVO:  analizar la asociación ecológica entre necesidad social y tasa de detección de lepra en el estado de Pará, Brasil.  MÉTODOS:  se trata de un estudio ecológico transversal con datos del Sistema Nacional de Enfermedades de Declaración Obligatoria; utilizamos análisis factorial y autocorrelación Moran global y local bivariado para identificar patrones asociados a la distribución del índice de carencia social (ICS) y tasa de detección de la hanseniasis (TDH).  RESULTADOS:  en 2013, había 3.358 nuevos casos de lepra en Pará, con tasa de detección (TDH) de 41,98 casos/100.000 habitantes; las tasas más altas se observaron en los municipios de la región de Araguaia; 17,5% de los 143 municipios del estado se consideraron hiper-endémica (TDH&gt;40,00) y 30,8% ICS malo; había autocorrelación espacial entre TDH y ICS (p&lt;0,05).  CONCLUSIÓN:  se verificó asociación espacial entre ICS y TDH, con mayor deteccíon de lepra en los municipios con mayor carencia.]]></p></abstract>
