Métodos:  Estudo descritivo, com base em registros no Sistema de Notificações de Vigilância Sanitária (Notivisa) da Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária (Anvisa), módulo &#8216;cidadão&#8217;, entre 2014 e 2018.  Resultados:  Foram notificados 935 incidentes que, preponderantemente, ocorreram com pessoas do sexo feminino (60,9%), idosas (20,1%) e de raça/cor da pele branca (51,0%). Os incidentes mais notificados estiveram relacionados ao uso de medicamentos (50,8%), quedas (7,5%) e infecções relacionadas à assistência à saúde (7,2%), ocorridos durante a prestação do cuidado, tratamento ou cirurgia (37,3%), no período diurno (58,3%) e em hospitais (37,4%).  Conclusão:  Observou-se baixa adesão dos cidadãos ao sistema de notificação. Houve maior frequência de notificações de incidentes relacionados a medicamentos, quedas e infecções relacionadas à assistência. Isto evidencia o potencial dos cidadãos em reconhecer e reportar tais incidentes como problemas de segurança do paciente.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen  Objetivo:  Describir los incidentes notificados por los ciudadanos brasileños en el Sistema de Notificación de Vigilancia Sanitaria.  Métodos:  Estudio descriptivo basado en los registros del Sistema de Notificación de Vigilancia Sanitaria de la Agencia Nacional de Vigilancia Sanitaria, módulo "ciudadano", entre 2014-2018.  Resultados:  Se notificaron 935 incidentes, preponderantemente, los pacientes fueron mujeres (60,9%), ancianos (20,1%) y de raza/color de piel blanca (51,0%). Los incidentes más notificados estaban relacionados con medicación (50,8%), caídas (7,5%) e infecciones relacionadas con la asistencia sanitaria (7,2%). Estos ocurrieron durante la atención, el tratamiento o la cirugía (37,3%), durante el día (58,3%) y en los hospitales (37,4%).  Conclusión:  Se observa la baja adherencia de los ciudadanos al sistema de notificación. Hubo una mayor frecuencia de notificaciones de incidentes relacionados con medicación, caídas e infecciones relacionadas con los cuidados. Se destaca la capacidad del ciudadano para reconocer y notificar incidentes como problemas de seguridad del paciente.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Objective:  To describe incidents related to healthcare services reported by Brazilian citizens on the Health Surveillance Notification System.  Methods:  This was a descriptive study, using the database from the Health Surveillance Notification System (Notivisa) of the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (Anvisa), 'citizen' module, between 2014 and 2018.  Results:  935 incidents were reported, most of them occurred among females (60.9%), the elderly (20.1%) and those of white race/skin color (51.0%). The majority of the reported incidents were related to the use of medications (50.8%), falls (7.5%) and healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) (7.2%), which occurred during provision of healthcare, treatment or surgery (37.3%), in daytime (58.3%) and in hospital setting (37.4%).  Conclusion:  It could be seen a low adherence to the notification system among the citizens. There was a higher frequency of incidents related to medications, falls and HAIs. This shows that citizens have the capability to recognize and report these incidents as patient safety issues.]]></p></abstract>
