MATERIAIS E MÉTODOS: Após diagnóstico confirmatório de cinco pacientes-índices com sintomas sugestivos de toxoplasmose aguda, teve início uma investigação clínica e soroepidemiológica de toxoplasmose na localidade de procedência dos pacientes. Foram avaliados 186 indivíduos, incluindo pacientes sintomáticos, seus familiares e/ou contatos próximos. Todos, espontaneamente, submeteram-se a inquérito epidemiológico, avaliação clínica e sorologia pelo ensaio imunoenzimático (ELISA) para detecção de anticorpos IgG e IgM anti-Toxoplasma gondii. RESULTADOS: Quarenta indivíduos (21,5%) apresentaram perfil sorológico de toxoplasmose aguda, considerando-se IgM e IgG reagentes em elevados títulos. A análise epidemiológica indicou que os casos poderiam estar vinculados à infecção com oocistos eliminados pelos gatos, cuja população era elevada. A hipótese provável de transmissão seria pelo contato direto com oocistos do parasito, na ingestão de alimentos contaminados, ou, possivelmente, até por inalação dessas formas presentes no solo. A possibilidade de transmissão hídrica por meio do sistema de distribuição de água local foi descartada, já que o sistema é inacessível aos gatos. Os indivíduos doentes foram tratados nos serviços de saúde do Município. As autoridades sanitárias locais foram orientadas para implementar medidas de controle de gatos errantes, visando prevenir novos casos ou surtos. CONCLUSÃO: O surto ocorrido entre fevereiro e março de 2004, em Monte Dourado-PA, foi causado pelo T. gondii. Admite-se que houve uma somatória de fatores que mantêm a hipótese sustentada da contaminação via oocistos, tais como: elevada população de gatos no Distrito; procedimentos frequentes de jardinagem; e ausência de relatos de ingestão de carne crua ou mal cozida.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[OBJECTIVE: To report an outbreak of human toxoplasmosis that occurred in the District of Monte Dourado, Municipality of Almeirim, Pará State, Brazil. MATERIALS AND METHODS: After the positive diagnosis of five patients with symptoms suggestive of toxoplasmosis, clinical research and epidemiology were executed in the locality. A total of 186 individuals were evaluated, including symptomatic patients, their relatives and/or close contacts. All subjects underwent epidemiological inquiry, clinical assessment and serology by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for detection of anti-Toxoplasma gondii IgG and IgM. RESULTS: A total of 40 individuals presented a serological profile of acute toxoplasmosis. Epidemiological analysis indicated that the cases could be related to infection with oocysts eliminated by cats, whose population density was very high in the surveyed locality. The most likely hypothesis of transmission would be through direct contact with oocysts of the parasite, either by the ingestion of contaminated food or by the inhalation of these forms in the soil. The possibility of water transmission through the local supply system was discarded because the system is inaccessible to cats. Infected individuals were treated at the local health care units. Moreover, local health authorities were instructed to implement measures to control stray cats in order to prevent new cases or outbreaks. CONCLUSION: The outbreak that occurred between February and March 2004 in Monte Dourado was caused by T. gondii. The hypothesis of contamination via oocysts of the parasite is supported by several factors, such as a high population density of cats in the surveyed District, frequent gardening habits and a lack of reports of ingestion of raw or undercooked meat.]]></p></abstract>

MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: Tras confirmar el diagnóstico en cinco pacientes índices con síntomas sugestivos de la toxoplasmosis, se llevó a cabo en esa localidad un estudio clínico y seroepidemiológico. Se evaluaron 186 personas, incluidos los pacientes sintomáticos, sus familiares y/o contactos cercanos. Todos fueron sometidos a la investigación epidemiológica, la evaluación clínica y la serología por ensayo inmunoenzimático (ELISA) para la detección de IgG e IgM contra Toxoplasma gondii. RESULTADOS: Cuarenta individuos presentaban perfil serológico de la toxoplasmosis aguda. Los análisis epidemiológicos indican que los casos podrían estar vinculados a la infección con ooquistes eliminados por los gatos, cuya población en la ciudad era muy elevada. Una hipótesis probable de transmisión sería el contacto directo con los ooquistes del parásito, ya sea por la ingestión de alimentos contaminados o por inhalación de estas formas presentes en el suelo. La posibilidad de transmisión hídrica a través del sistema de distribución de agua local se descartó, ya que el sistema es inaccesible para los gatos. Los individuos enfermos fueron tratados en los servicios de salud del Municipio. Además, las autoridades sanitarias locales se encargaron de aplicar medidas de control de gatos callejeros, para prevenir nuevos casos o brotes. CONCLUSIÓN: El brote que se produjo entre febrero y marzo de 2004 en Monte Dourado fue causado por T. gondii. Na Amaz&ocirc;nia brasileira, estudos   epidemiol&oacute;gicos demonstraram que, a exemplo do que &eacute;   observado em outras &aacute;reas, a toxoplasmose, nas suas   diferentes formas, &eacute; uma infec&ccedil;&atilde;o bastante frequente,   com soropreval&ecirc;ncia acima de 70%<sup>4,10,5,9</sup>.</font></p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p><font size="2" face="verdana">O homem adquire a infec&ccedil;&atilde;o       pelo <i>T. gondii</i>, principalmente, por meio da ingest&atilde;o de formas infectantes,   como os oocistos, que s&atilde;o eliminados nas fezes dos fel&iacute;deos e   que contaminam alimentos, &aacute;gua e o solo<sup>27,26,14</sup>, e pela   ingest&atilde;o de carne crua ou mal cozida contendo cistos teciduais do parasito<sup>27,26,1</sup>.   Entre outros mecanismos, al&eacute;m   da forma cong&ecirc;nita, alguns autores consideram a   possibilidade da inala&ccedil;&atilde;o de oocistos<sup>19,23</sup>. Em geral, a   toxoplasmose tende a ser assintom&aacute;tica ou a se manifestar   com sinais e sintomas comuns a outras patologias,   desenvolvendo um quadro cl&iacute;nico conhecido como   s&iacute;ndrome mononucleose-<i>like</i><sup>22</sup>. Contudo, em algumas   situa&ccedil;&otilde;es, a infec&ccedil;&atilde;o pode assumir consider&aacute;vel   gravidade,   principalmente na forma cong&ecirc;nita, ou quando o indiv&iacute;duo   infectado apresenta imunossupress&atilde;o, situa&ccedil;&atilde;o em que as   manifesta&ccedil;&otilde;es, em geral, decorrem do comprometimento   do sistema nervoso central, algumas vezes com evolu&ccedil;&atilde;o para &oacute;bito<sup>26,3,23</sup>.</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">In&uacute;meros surtos de toxoplasmose humana t&ecirc;m sido   relatados em alguns pa&iacute;ses, inclusive no Brasil, em decorr&ecirc;ncia   do consumo de carne contendo cistos do   parasito, ou de alimentos ou &aacute;gua contaminada com   oocistos do <i>T. gondii</i>, com destaque para o surto ocorrido   em Santa Izabel do Iva&iacute;-PR, considerado o maior j&aacute;   registrado em todo o mundo<sup>13,20,7,6,21,15</sup>.</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">O objetivo deste estudo foi relatar um surto     de toxoplasmose humana ocorrido no Distrito de Monte   Dourado, Munic&iacute;pio de Almeirim-PA, Brasil, por ser uma   forma pouco comum de apresenta&ccedil;&atilde;o deste agravo no   norte do Pa&iacute;s, envolvendo um n&uacute;mero importante de   indiv&iacute;duos.</font></p>     <p>&nbsp;</p>     <p><font size="3" face="verdana"><b>MATERIAIS E M&Eacute;TODOS</b></font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana"><b>&Aacute;REA DE ESTUDO</b></font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">A &aacute;rea investigada foi o Distrito de Monte Dourado,   pertencente ao Munic&iacute;pio de Almeirim, e distante cerca de   450 km da capital, Bel&eacute;m. Monte Dourado est&aacute; situado   ao norte do Estado do Par&aacute; (0<sup>o</sup> 53' 22'' S, 52<sup>o</sup> 36' 6'' W) e   possui popula&ccedil;&atilde;o estimada em 12 mil habitantes (<a href="#f1">Figura   1</a>). No Distrito est&aacute; localizada a Jari Celulose S/A, uma   empresa multinacional produtora de celulose na Regi&atilde;o   Amaz&ocirc;nica.</font></p>     <p><a name="f1"></a></p>     <p>&nbsp;</p>     <p align="center"><img src="/img/revistas/rpas/v1n1/1a09f1.gif" border="0"></p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p>&nbsp;</p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana"><b>INVESTIGA&Ccedil;&Atilde;O DO SURTO</b></font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">Cinco funcion&aacute;rios da empresa, residentes em Monte   Dourado, apresentaram os primeiros sinais e sintomas   sugestivos de toxoplasmose aguda, entre 20 de fevereiro e   10 de mar&ccedil;o de 2004. Na evolu&ccedil;&atilde;o cl&iacute;nica, foi observada   febre elevada (38<sup>o</sup> C a 40<sup>o</sup> C) e persistente, prostra&ccedil;&atilde;o,   anorexia, emagrecimento e linfadenopatia, sobretudo das   cadeias do pesco&ccedil;o. Os pacientes foram encaminhados   para Bel&eacute;m, ficando sob tratamento hospitalar, onde realizaram testes   laboratoriais para diferentes patologias,   confirmando tratar-se de casos de toxoplasmose aguda.</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">Com o aparecimento de outros casos semelhantes     na localidade, a empresa solicitou ao Instituto Evandro Chagas   (IEC) orienta&ccedil;&otilde;es de como proceder. Uma equipe t&eacute;cnica   do   IEC, composta de m&eacute;dico infectologista, oftalmologista,   bi&oacute;logo e t&eacute;cnicos de laborat&oacute;rio foi enviada a Monte   Dourado, para proceder &agrave;s avalia&ccedil;&otilde;es cl&iacute;nica, laboratorial   e   epidemiol&oacute;gica na &aacute;rea, estabelecendo a seguinte   estrat&eacute;gia de investiga&ccedil;&atilde;o:</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">a) Visita aos bairros do Distrito, para observa&ccedil;&atilde;o das   condi&ccedil;&otilde;es do solo (seco ou &uacute;mido, entre outras); visita   ao sistema de capta&ccedil;&atilde;o, tratamento e distribui&ccedil;&atilde;o   de   &aacute;gua; observa&ccedil;&atilde;o sobre a presen&ccedil;a de felinos e   outros animais errantes na &aacute;rea urbana do Distrito;</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">b) Avalia&ccedil;&atilde;o cl&iacute;nica e epidemiol&oacute;gica das pessoas   doentes, familiares e contatos pr&oacute;ximos, com   preenchimento de ficha individual e coleta de   sangue;</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">c) Palestras educativas sobre toxoplasmose       para profissionais de sa&uacute;de do Munic&iacute;pio e da empresa   Jari, engenheiros, professores, veterin&aacute;rios e l&iacute;deres   comunit&aacute;rios;</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">d) Defini&ccedil;&atilde;o de medidas de controle, juntamente com   autoridades da Secretaria de Sa&uacute;de e de Agricultura   do Estado do Par&aacute;, e da empresa Jari.</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana"><b>M&Eacute;TODOS LABORATORIAIS</b></font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">De cada pessoa investigada foram coletados       5 mL de sangue total, por pun&ccedil;&atilde;o venosa, para obten&ccedil;&atilde;o   de duas   al&iacute;quotas de soro (100 &#181;L/cada). O teste sorol&oacute;gico   empregado foi o ensaio imunoenzim&aacute;tico (ELISA) para   detec&ccedil;&atilde;o de anticorpos anti-<i>T. gondii</i>. Para anticorpos   da   classe IgG, utilizou-se o ELISA indireto, e, para IgM, o   ELISA de imunocaptura. Foram utilizados kits comerciais   (<i>Toxoplasma gondii</i> IgG/IgM-<i>In vitro</i> Diagnostica/<i>Human</i>),   e os procedimentos t&eacute;cnicos foram desenvolvidos de   acordo com as recomenda&ccedil;&otilde;es do fabricante.</font></p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p><font size="2" face="verdana">Procederam-se tamb&eacute;m a esfrega&ccedil;os e gotas espessas   de sangue em l&acirc;mina para exclus&atilde;o de diagn&oacute;stico de   mal&aacute;ria, por ser esta um agravo end&ecirc;mico na regi&atilde;o,   podendo se manifestar com sinais e sintomas semelhantes   aos da toxoplasmose aguda, em algumas situa&ccedil;&otilde;es.</font></p>     <p>&nbsp;</p>     <p><font size="3" face="verdana"><b>RESULTADOS</b></font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana"><b>AN&Aacute;LISE EPIDEMIOL&Oacute;GICA DA &Aacute;REA</b></font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">Ap&oacute;s an&aacute;lise, observou-se:</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">a) Incont&aacute;vel popula&ccedil;&atilde;o felina dom&eacute;stica errante,   habitando casas abandonadas, jardins e pra&ccedil;as,   favorecendo a intensa elimina&ccedil;&atilde;o de oocistos;</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">b) A n&atilde;o pavimenta&ccedil;&atilde;o das ruas do Distrito,   proporcionando maior sobreviv&ecirc;ncia dos oocistos   no solo; c) A distribui&ccedil;&atilde;o de casos em v&aacute;rios bairros   do Distrito   e n&atilde;o somente em aglomerados pontuais;</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">d) Impossibilidade de acesso de felinos a       qualquer das etapas do sistema de capta&ccedil;&atilde;o e distribui&ccedil;&atilde;o   de &aacute;gua destinada &agrave; popula&ccedil;&atilde;o local;</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">e) Coincid&ecirc;ncia entre o surgimento dos primeiros   casos e um intenso per&iacute;odo de chuvas, as quais   podem ter promovido a eros&atilde;o do solo, com   suspens&atilde;o das fezes dos felinos e consequente   dispers&atilde;o dos oocistos por grande parte dos bairros   no Distrito;</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">f) Maior frequ&ecirc;ncia de casos ap&oacute;s esse per&iacute;odo de   chuvas, quando ocorreu o feriado de carnaval, que   foi um per&iacute;odo de estiagem, e v&aacute;rias fam&iacute;lias o   aproveitaram para realizar atividades de   jardinagem e/ou limpeza dos quintais;</font></p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p><font size="2" face="verdana">g) Coincid&ecirc;ncia entre o per&iacute;odo do surto e o   nascimento de v&aacute;rias ninhadas de gatos, que   geralmente eliminam maior quantidade de oocistos,   favorecendo maior contamina&ccedil;&atilde;o do ambiente com   essas formas.</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana"><b>AVALIA&Ccedil;&Atilde;O CL&Iacute;NICA</b></font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">Cento e oitenta e seis pessoas, com idade       variando de 1 a 65 anos de idade (m&eacute;dia: 23,3 &#177; 16,3), foram   clinicamente avaliadas. Quarenta e uma (22%)   apresentaram manifesta&ccedil;&otilde;es cl&iacute;nicas sugestivas de   toxoplasmose aguda (linfadenopatia, febre persistente,   hepatoesplenomegalia, exantema e outros); 12 (6,45%),   com sintomatologia inespec&iacute;fica (manifesta&ccedil;&otilde;es   respirat&oacute;rias, n&aacute;useas, cefal&eacute;ia, entre outras); as demais   estavam assintom&aacute;ticas.</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana"><b>AVALIA&Ccedil;&Atilde;O LABORATORIAL</b></font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">Os resultados obtidos ap&oacute;s an&aacute;lise sorol&oacute;gica das 186   pessoas est&atilde;o expressos na <a href="#t1">tabela 1</a>. Em rela&ccedil;&atilde;o &agrave;   pesquisa de plasm&oacute;dio, todas as l&acirc;minas confeccionadas   (gota espessa e esfrega&ccedil;o) apresentaram resultados   negativos.</font></p>     <p><a name="t1"></a></p>     <p>&nbsp;</p>     <p align="center"><img src="/img/revistas/rpas/v1n1/1a09t1.gif" border="0"></p>     <p>&nbsp;</p>     <p><font size="3" face="verdana"><b>DISCUSS&Atilde;O</b></font></p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p><font size="2" face="verdana">Os resultados sorol&oacute;gicos demonstraram     elevada frequ&ecirc;ncia de indiv&iacute;duos com perfil compat&iacute;vel     com toxoplasmose aguda (21,5%, 40/186). Destes   indiv&iacute;duos, 85% (34/40) apresentavam manifesta&ccedil;&otilde;es   cl&iacute;nicas cl&aacute;ssicas, 12,5% (5/40) informavam   sintomatologia inespec&iacute;fica e 2,5% (1/40) n&atilde;o   manifestavam qualquer sintoma. Esta evid&ecirc;ncia est&aacute; de   acordo com o observado em outros surtos de   toxoplasmose, em que a maioria das pessoas acometidas   de toxoplasmose aguda apresentava sintomas cl&aacute;ssicos da doen&ccedil;a<sup>13,20</sup>.   Pelo fato de serem os casos, em sua maioria, clinicamente sintom&aacute;ticos   e apresentarem elevados n&iacute;veis de IgG e IgM, sem ficar a d&uacute;vida   de tratar-se de IgM residual caracterizando persist&ecirc;ncia, o teste de   avidez para IgG n&atilde;o foi realizado. </font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">A constata&ccedil;&atilde;o de indiv&iacute;duos sintom&aacute;ticos com perfil   de   imunidade &agrave; infec&ccedil;&atilde;o (8,5%; 7/82) pode ser justificada   pela possibilidade de alguns casos ainda n&atilde;o terem   estabelecido a soroconvers&atilde;o; em rela&ccedil;&atilde;o aos indiv&iacute;duos   sintom&aacute;ticos com perfil de imunidade (IgG reagente e IgM   n&atilde;o reagente), questiona-se a possibilidade de tratar-se   de reinfec&ccedil;&atilde;o, uma vez que a localidade encontra-se em   &aacute;rea de floresta prim&aacute;ria, podendo estes pacientes terem   entrado em contato com cepas at&iacute;picas, at&eacute; ent&atilde;o restritas   ao ambiente silvestre. Contudo, a falta de isolamento e de   an&aacute;lise molecular das cepas n&atilde;o nos permite afirmar conclusivamente tal hip&oacute;tese.</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">A an&aacute;lise epidemiol&oacute;gica realizada     em Monte Dourado mostrou uma realidade diferente da observada   em outros relatos nacionais e internacionais de surtos.   Nestes surtos, a forma confirmada de infec&ccedil;&atilde;o esteve   diretamente relacionada com transmiss&atilde;o por via oral,   vinculada ao consumo de &aacute;gua contaminada com   oocistos, e/ou de carne de diferentes origens ou seus    derivados contendo cistos teciduais do parasito<sup>13,20,7,6,24</sup>.   Em Monte Dourado, constatou-se que a transmiss&atilde;o da   infec&ccedil;&atilde;o por oocistos de <i>T. gondii</i> esteve relacionada   com   uma associa&ccedil;&atilde;o de fatores, tais como: elevada   popula&ccedil;&atilde;o de felinos circulando em toda a &aacute;rea urbana   do Distrito e adentrando na &aacute;rea de floresta no entorno da   localidade; per&iacute;odo de procria&ccedil;&atilde;o e nascimento de   muitas ninhadas de gatos; eros&atilde;o de solo por chuvas   abundantes com prov&aacute;vel ressuspens&atilde;o de oocistos, que   foram disseminados por aeross&oacute;is decorrentes da   jardinagem e/ou vento; contamina&ccedil;&atilde;o de alimentos   comercializados na &aacute;rea por oocistos do parasito. Estes   fatores podem relacionar a forma de infec&ccedil;&atilde;o por   oocistos com a ingest&atilde;o de alimentos contaminados; com   poss&iacute;vel inala&ccedil;&atilde;o de oocistos disseminados por aeross&oacute;is   de poeiras; e at&eacute; com o contato direto com os gatos ou   outros vetores mec&acirc;nicos (moscas e baratas) presentes em   peri e intradomic&iacute;lio. Estas observa&ccedil;&otilde;es podem ser   corroboradas por dados obtidos em outros estudos realizados na Europa e Estados   Unidos<sup>11,18</sup>.</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">A possibilidade de infec&ccedil;&atilde;o relacionada &agrave; ingest&atilde;o   de   carne com cistos do parasito a princ&iacute;pio foi descartada,   visto que n&atilde;o houve relatos da ingest&atilde;o de carne crua ou   mal cozida, apesar dos moradores da &aacute;rea,   principalmente os oriundos de outras regi&otilde;e</font><font size="2" face="verdana">s do pa&iacute;s,   possu&iacute;rem o h&aacute;bito de ingerir carne de diferentes origens   (bovina, su&iacute;na e ovina) na forma de churrascos.</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">Em 2002, foi registrado em Santa Izabel do Iva&iacute;,   Munic&iacute;pio do Estado do Paran&aacute;, o maior surto de   toxoplasmose em todo o mundo, em que 70% das 600 pessoas que buscaram atendimento   m&eacute;dico apresentavam   perfil de infec&ccedil;&atilde;o aguda. Neste surto, a transmiss&atilde;o se   deu   atrav&eacute;s da ingest&atilde;o de &aacute;gua contaminada com oocistos   eliminados nas fezes de filhotes de gatos, os quais   habitavam a &aacute;rea da cisterna que armazenava a &aacute;gua    distribu&iacute;da para a Cidade<sup>20</sup>. Em Monte Dourado, a   infec&ccedil;&atilde;o por veicula&ccedil;&atilde;o h&iacute;drica pela rede   de distribui&ccedil;&atilde;o   local foi descartada, pois n&atilde;o havia possibilidade de   contato direto dos gatos ou de oocistos nas etapas desse   processo. Todavia, foi observado que em algumas   moradias armazenava-se inadequadamente a &aacute;gua   utilizada para consumo, que ficava exposta ao risco de   contamina&ccedil;&atilde;o com oocistos.</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">Foi tamb&eacute;m observado que os gatos errantes   circulavam com frequ&ecirc;ncia na floresta que circunda a   localidade e podem ter-se infectado no ambiente silvestre   com oocistos de cepas virulentas at&iacute;picas de <i><i>T. gondii</i></i>,   disseminadas por fel&iacute;deos selvagens, contaminando, ao   retornarem, a &aacute;rea urbana, com estes oocistos de cepas   at&iacute;picas. Tal possibilidade pode justificar a ocorr&ecirc;ncia de   quadros graves de toxoplasmose, e, possivelmente, at&eacute;   casos de reinfec&ccedil;&atilde;o. A forma grave da toxoplasmose em   humanos, relacionada a cepas virulentas at&iacute;picas, j&aacute;  foi   relatada em &aacute;reas de floresta, na fronteira do Suriname   com a Guiana Francesa, inclusive com registros de &oacute;bito<sup>8,12</sup>. A ocorr&ecirc;ncia   deste fato tamb&eacute;m &eacute; poss&iacute;vel em   Monte Dourado, principalmente pela proximidade   geogr&aacute;fica e similaridade entre as florestas do Munic&iacute;pio   de Almeirim e as do Suriname e Guiana Francesa, o que   favorece a circula&ccedil;&atilde;o dessas cepas em ambas as &aacute;reas.</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">Pela dispers&atilde;o de casos em todo o Distrito, n&atilde;o foi   poss&iacute;vel realizar estudo de caso-controle para determinar   fatores de risco comuns que estivessem associados &agrave;   transmiss&atilde;o de toxoplasmose na localidade onde ocorreu   o surto.</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">Com o esclarecimento da etiologia, foram realizadas   palestras e reuni&otilde;es t&eacute;cnicas entre as institui&ccedil;&otilde;es   p&uacute;blicas e   privadas envolvidas na investiga&ccedil;&atilde;o, para implementa&ccedil;&atilde;o   de medidas objetivando evitar o surgimento de novos   casos ou mesmo outros surtos da doen&ccedil;a, tais como o   controle de animais errantes e orienta&ccedil;&otilde;es preventivas   para os moradores e trabalhadores do Distrito.</font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">Estudos futuros ainda precisam ser realizados,     visando o isolamento e caracteriza&ccedil;&atilde;o genot&iacute;pica das cepas que   circulam na &aacute;rea. Al&eacute;m disso, &eacute; fundamental a reavalia&ccedil;&atilde;o   dos indiv&iacute;duos que estavam doentes ou suscet&iacute;veis (soronegativos)   durante o surto, para que sejam detectadas poss&iacute;veis sequelas oculares   ou soroconvers&atilde;o.</font></p>     <p>&nbsp;</p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p><font size="3" face="verdana"><b>CONCLUS&Atilde;O</b></font></p>     <p><font size="2" face="verdana">As evid&ecirc;ncias laboratoriais, cl&iacute;nicas e epidemiol&oacute;gicas   observadas indicam que o protozo&aacute;rio <i><i>T. gondii</i> </i>foi o   pat&oacute;geno respons&aacute;vel pelo surto ocorrido no Distrito de   Monte Dourado entre fevereiro e mar&ccedil;o de 2004.
