É assintomática em até 80% dos casos e está associada à doença inflamatória pélvica, infertilidade tubária, parto prematuro, aborto, gravidez ectópica, doença respiratória no recém-nascido e mortalidade neonatal.  OBJETIVO: Verificar a incidência e os fatores associados à infecção urogenital de C. trachomatis em parturientes de uma maternidade pública de referência em Belém, Estado do Pará, Brasil, entre o período de 21 de novembro a 8 de dezembro de 2011.  MATERIAIS E MÉTODOS: As participantes do estudo assinaram um Termo de Consentimento Livre e Esclarecido e responderam um questionário padronizado. A detecção de C. trachomatis foi realizada através do sistema COBAS Amplicor CT/NG (Roche Molecular Systems, Branchburg, NJ, EUA), seguindo as recomendações do fabricante. Na análise estatística, foi utilizado o programa BioEstat v5.0 e o teste Odds ratio foi empregado para a análise das variáveis. O p &#8804; 0,05 foi considerado estatisticamente significativo, com intervalo de confiança de 95%.  RESULTADOS: A incidência da infecção urogenital por C. trachomatis foi de 18% (22/122); a infecção esteve significantemente associada às parturientes de idade igual ou inferior a 25 anos (p = 0,014) e às que não realizaram o pré-natal (p = 0,0029).  CONCLUSÃO: A alta incidência de C. trachomatis em parturientes de uma grande maternidade mostra a necessidade da elaboração de políticas de saúde voltadas para as estratégias de triagem e prevenção das infecções sexualmente transmissíveis em grávidas e em neonatos na Região Amazônica brasileira.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  BACKGROUND: Chlamydia trachomatis is the most prevalent sexual infection in the world. It is asymptomatic in up to 80% of cases and is linked to pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility, premature delivery, abortion, ectopic pregnancy, respiratory disease in newborns, and neonatal mortality.  OBJECTIVES: To verify the incidence and factors linked to C. trachomatis urogenital infection in parturient women in a public maternity hospital in Belém, Pará State, Brazil, between November 21 and December 8, 2011.  MATERIALS AND METHODS: Study participants signed an informed consent form, and answered a standardized questionnaire. C. trachomatis was detected using the COBAS Amplicor CT/NG test (Roche Molecular Systems, Branchburg, NJ, USA), according to manufacturer's recommendations. The BioEstat v5.0 software was used for statistical analysis, and the Odds ratio test for analyzing variables. A p &#8804; 0.05 was considered statistically significant, and the confidence interval was 95%.  RESULTS: The incidence of C. trachomatis urogenital infection was 18% (22/122); the infection was significantly associated with participants aged 25 years or younger (p = 0.014) and those who did not undergo prenatal testing (p = 0.0029).  CONCLUSION: The high incidence of C. trachomatis in parturient women at this maternity hospital shows the need for developing health policies focused on screening strategies and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases in pregnant women and newborns in Brazilian Amazon Region.]]></p></abstract>

Es asintomática en hasta 80% de los casos y está asociada a la enfermedad inflamatoria pélvica, infertilidad tubárica, parto prematuro, aborto, gravidez ectópica, enfermedad respiratoria del recién nacido y mortalidad neonatal.  OBJETIVO:  Verificar la incidencia y los factores asociados a la infección urogenital de C. trachomatis en parturientes de una maternidad pública de referencia en Belém, Estado de Pará, Brasil, entre el período de 21 de noviembre a 8 de diciembre de 2011.
