OBJETIVO: Analisar os perfis sociodemográfico e clínico das PVHIV que desenvolveram NTX no interior do estado do Pará, Brasil.  MATERIAIS E MÉTODOS: Estudo descritivo, quantitativo e transversal. Amostra composta por 91 prontuários de PVHIV de um centro de referência de Santarém, no Pará, com diagnóstico para NTX. Buscou-se informações nos prontuários referentes às características sociodemográficas, clínicas e laboratoriais. Os dados foram analisados pela estatística descritiva e inferencial, adotando-se o nível de significância de p &lt; 0,05.  RESULTADOS: Notou-se maior prevalência de homens (72,5%), cor de pele/raça parda (85,7%), 4-7 anos de estudos (42,9%) e solteiros (48,4%). A idade para o diagnóstico da NTX foi maior que para a infecção pelo HIV (33 vs. 32 anos; p &lt; 0,001), e os homens, em relação às mulheres, apresentaram maior contagem de LTCD4+ (73 vs. 49 céls./mm³; p = 0,028). As principais manifestações clínicas da NTX foram hemiparesia/hemiplegia (25,9%) e cefaleia (15,0%). Não se observou associação do sexo com manifestações clínicas, outras infecções oportunistas ou a idade para o diagnóstico de NTX (p &gt; 0,05).  CONCLUSÃO: Diante das manifestações clínicas mais relevantes apresentadas, a conduta médica e da equipe de saúde deve ser direcionada para a testagem sorológica do HIV, visto que os dados demonstraram uma procura tardia pelo serviço de saúde especializado por parte dos pacientes.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  INTRODUCTION: Neurotoxoplasmosis (NTX) is a common opportunistic disease in people living with HIV (PLHIV), caused by the protozoan Toxoplasma gondii, which may arise when the CD4+ T lymphocyte count (CD4+ count) is &lt; 100 cells/mm³. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the sociodemographic and clinical profiles of PLHIV who developed NTX in the interior of Pará State, Brazil.  MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a descriptive, quantitative, and cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 91 medical records of PLHIV diagnosed with NTX from a reference center in Santarém, Pará. Information on sociodemographic, clinical, and laboratory characteristics was sought in the medical records. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, with a significance level of p &lt; 0.05.  RESULTS: A higher prevalence of men (72.5%), brown skin color/race (85.7%), 4-7 years of education (42.9%), and single individuals (48.4%) was observed. The age at NTX diagnosis was higher than for HIV infection (33 vs. 32 years; p &lt; 0.001), and men, compared to women, had a higher CD4+ count (73 vs. 49 cells/mm³; p = 0.028). The main clinical manifestations of NTX were hemiparesis/hemiplegia (25.9%) and headache (15.0%).
