MATERIAIS E MÉTODOS: Capturas entomológicas foram realizadas com armadilhas luminosas tipo CDC, a 1,5 m de altura em relação ao solo, durante 12 h, em 80 pontos amostrais nas interfaces urbana e rural de Cachoeira do Piriá, de agosto a outubro de 2021. Após montagem em lâminas, usando bálsamo do Canadá, os espécimes foram identificados, quantificados, e os dados foram tabulados em planilhas eletrônicas para a realização de estatística descritiva.  RESULTADOS: Foram capturados 544 espécimes (28 espécies de 12 gêneros). Nyssomyia antunesi, Nyssomyia fraihai, Evandromyia infraspinosa e Bichromomyia flaviscutellata foram as mais frequentes. Espécies com importância vetorial foram identificadas (Bi. flaviscutellata, Lutzomyia gomezi, Ny. antunesi, Psychodopygus davisi, Psychodopygus ayrozai e Psychodopygus complexus), além de um exemplar de Evandromyia andersoni, primeiro registro de ocorrência no Pará.  CONCLUSÃO: Há espécies importantes na transmissão de leishmanias em Cachoeira do Piriá que necessitam de investigação. O registro de ocorrência de Ev. andersoni para o estado do Pará amplia a área de distribuição conhecida da espécie no Brasil e indica que a riqueza de flebotomíneos no Pará pode ser ainda maior.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  OBJECTIVE: To identify the composition of sand fly species in the municipality of Cachoeira do Piriá, Pará State, Brazil.  MATERIALS AND METHODS: Entomological captures were carried out with CDC light traps installed at 1.5 above the ground for 12 h in 80 sampling points at the urban and rural areas of Cachoeira do Piriá, from August to October 2021. After slide-mounting in Canada balsam the specimens were identified, quantified, and the data were organized in electronic spreadsheets to perform descriptive statistics.  RESULTS: A total of 544 specimens (28 species of 12 genera) were captured. Nyssomyia antunesi, Nyssomyia fraihai, Evandromyia infraspinosa and Bichromomyia flaviscutellata were the most frequent ones. Species with vectorial importance were identified (Bi. flaviscutellata, Lutzomyia gomezi, Ny. antunesi, Psychodopygus davisi, Psychodopygus ayrozai and Psychodopygus complexus), besides a specimen of Evandromyia andersoni the first record of its occurrence in Pará.  CONCLUSION: There are important species in the transmission of leishmania in Cachoeira do Piriá that need investigation. The occurrence records of Ev. andersoni for the state of Pará increases the known distribution area of &#8203;&#8203;the species in Brazil and indicates that the number of sand flies in Pará may be even greater.]]></p></abstract>
