Abstract
GOMEZ, Carlos Minayo et al. The construction of an unsustainable social environment. Inf. Epidemiol. Sus [online]. 2002, vol.11, n.3, pp.177-194. ISSN 0104-1673. http://dx.doi.org/10.5123/S0104-16732002000300008.
It is herein assumed that the social environment, as a space historically built of economical, political, social and cultural relationships among nations, regions and population groups, is in the core of the ecological issue. In Brazil, the deterioration of this environment, already marked by deep-rooted inequalities, is generating progressive forms of various levels of social exclusion due to vulnerability, precariousness and violence. If this trend persists, the foundations for the sustainable development will be gradually destroyed. A few aspects of this issue are analyzed in given social groups (women, youth, the elderly and street population) and in two categories of workers: those of civil construction and education. In light of this situation, this paper concludes that social-environment sustainability is unfeasible unless deep changes in the role of the State take place
